What is a Port Mirroring?

In the Unified Communication environment, a passive recorder with a sniffing approach for IP-based deployments requires a Port Mirroring to capture voice transmission. This is a network-spanning port used to copy and send network packets from a switch port to an external entity that will analyze the received traffic. Port Mirroring is also known as Switched Port Analyzer (SPAN) or Roving Analysis Port (RAP) and it is implemented in LAN, WLAN or VLAN to monitor network traffic and record it.
