What is a Local Area Network?

In the information technology and telecommunication environment, a Local Area Network (LAN) is a computer network that connects together many devices using components like Wi-Fi or Ethernet. A router assigns an IP address to each device to enable them to fast communicate and share information with each other.
Unlike WAN, it is faster and relates to a single limited geographical area typically less than 2km. For example, LAN could connect devices in an enterprise, a home, or an office building. It is easy to set up but, please remember, the number of devices that can be connected to LAN is limited.
