What does API mean?

API is the acronym that stands for Application Programming Interface. API is the engine under the hood, as they make possible the interactivity between different applications. Generally speaking, it can be described as a software intermediary that allows the interactions between different software or between mixed hardware-software applications. The set of protocols included in the APIs defines how software interacts with others: which kind of request can be made, how to make them, the practices to follow, which data formats are allowed, etc.

How is API used in Unified Communications?

In the Unified Communications scenario, API allows a UC application to integrate with other software products or *network elements* guaranteeing interoperability between the two systems. In some cases, API allows ISVs to extend existing functionalities, providing contact center operators and managers with advanced functionalities and integrations.
